Look at the composition of the two figures on the statue, the posture of the statue itself, the rope, even the guy at the bottom with the raised hand. Uncanny.
Less nudity in the second one, though.
I think sacking cities is technically a war crime, or the US could have done that too.
ReplyDeleteOne modern historian has described the sack of Rome in 410 as "one of the most civilized sacks of a city ever witnessed". Over three days the Goths basically stole a bunch of stuff and burned down the senate house, but left everything else alone. They even escorted citizens to designated sanctuaries before going back to loot their houses. And there was definitely no naked climbing on statues.
